I endorse the Tivo Series one.  It is now the only Tivo that you can use for “Free” forever.  Once you have connected your Tivo Series one to a phone line and it makes all necessary updates - you have set the time and time zone.  You have also selected your Television provider.  You are done.  Unplulg from the phone line and enjoy “Free Tivo”.  You can now manually record shows and pause live TV without paying the monthly Tivo scheduling fees.

We bought our Tivo for $40 on ebay.  It get’s used almost every time we watch TV.  Best buy in our minds.  We bought a universal Remote for $20 that controls TV DVD VCR and Tivo.  Nice.
